Privacy Notice

This notice explains what happens to the personal information which you share on mikeui.co, the website of Mike Lopez, a web designer and developer based in Metro Manila. I’m the person responsible for that information under the Data Privacy Act of 2012, and you can reach me about anything on this page at mike@mikeui.co.

What I collect and why

Messages which you send me

The email dialog, which opens from any Email me or Contact button, and the form at the end of my local service pages both ask for your name, your email address and your message, and the form also asks for your company. With each message the website adds the address of the page which you sent it from, so I know what you were reading. I use these details to reply to you, and if we decide to work together, to prepare a quote and to run the project. Emails which you send me directly are handled in the same way.

Visits to the website

The website uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and to show which pages people read, so I know which pages to improve. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and records the pages which you view, how you reached the website, your device and browser, and your approximate location, which Google works out from your internet address. I read it in Google’s reports, and I don’t use it to find out who you are. Google explains how it uses this information on its page about sites which use its services, and you can block these cookies in your browser’s settings.

Protection from spam

When you send a message, the website keeps a scrambled version of your internet address for one hour after your last message, which lets it refuse more than five messages an hour from one connection, and then it expires.

Who else receives it

  • Hostinger, which hosts the website, its database and the server’s records of each visit.
  • Google, which delivers the website’s messages to my inbox and provides my email through Google Workspace, and which runs Google Analytics.

These companies may store the information outside the Philippines. I don’t sell your information, and I share it with nobody else unless the law requires me to.

How long I keep it

  • Messages about an enquiry, for 12 months after our last message, and then I delete them.
  • If we work together, the messages about the project, for as long as the project runs and for 12 months after it ends, while invoices and contracts stay for as long as Philippine tax rules require.
  • The copy in the website’s email log, which shows that each message was sent, for 14 days.
  • The spam counter, for one hour after your last message.
  • The Google Analytics data about your visits, for no more than 14 months, which is the longest setting which Google offers for a standard Analytics property.

Your rights

Under the Data Privacy Act you can ask me whether I hold information about you and how I use it, ask for a copy, ask me to correct it, object to how I use it, and ask me to delete it or to stop using it. You can also ask for your information in a common electronic format, claim damages if its misuse harms you, and complain to the National Privacy Commission. The NPC’s advisory on data subject rights explains each of them.

To use any of these rights, email me at mike@mikeui.co and tell me which one. I’ll reply within 30 working days, which is the NPC’s limit, and I may ask you to confirm who you are before I share or change anything.

How I protect it

The website runs on HTTPS, so what you type into a form travels encrypted to the server, and I’m the only person who reads the messages which the forms send.

Changes to this notice

If I change what I collect or how I use it, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
